Fall festivities, coffee festivals and Shane Gillis, oh my! The Philadelphia area is buzzing this weekend, and not just from caffeine ahead of the inaugural Philly Coffee Festival.
This weekend features performances by A-List comedian Shane Gillis in South Philly, plus Judah & The Lion and Grammy award-winner Tori Kelly both take the stage at The Fillmore. We’re also talking fall festivities galore, both in the city and the suburbs. Read about those events and more as we break down what’s going on in the Philadelphia area from Friday to Sunday.
Stand-up fan favorite and Pennsylvania native Shane Gillis is bringing the laughs to South Philly this Friday night. Gillis, originally from Mechanicsburg, will perform his comedy magic at the Wells Fargo Center starting at 8 p.m.
Gillis’ Philly roots run deep. Back in 2016, the comic won Philly’s Funniest at Helium Comedy Club and now is known to pop in for a show appearance or two at the event center on Samson Street.
Gillis’ Pennsylvania roots were also on full display when he was a writer on Comedy Central’s 2015 series, “Delco Proper.” The comic has hosted “Saturday Night Live,” co-hosts “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast,” created and starred in the comedy show “Tires” and his latest comedy special, “Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs” is streaming on Netflix.
Tickets are sold out on Ticketmaster’s website but are available on third-party sellers starting at $101.
The last regular season home game here in Philly left fans with mixed feelings but there’s still hope for excitement. The Philadelphia Flyers face the Vancouver Canucks at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday.
After a thrilling 3-2 victory in Vancouver to open the season, the rematch comes to South Philly. Flyers’ budding star Matvei Michkov is already winning over the hearts of fans. Tickets are available for as low as $61 on third-party sites.
If you or someone you know is a Philadelphia sports fan in need of a home game, don’t hesitate to grab your seats.
Grammy award-winning artist Tori Kelly is bringing her Purple Skies tour to The Fillmore this Friday. The singer who boasts two Grammy wins and five nominations will hit the stage in Philadelphia at 7:30 p.m. featuring rising singer, Maisy Kay. Tickets to see Kelly and Kay under the bright lights in Philly start at $53.50.
Alt. indie band, Judah & The Lion will also hit the stage at The Fillmore this weekend. The band’s The Process tour kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and will feature fellow musical acts, Abe Parker and Bright Kelly. Tickets to see Judah & The Lion start at $59. And trust us, this will be a night you won’t want to “Take It All Back.”
But first, coffee.
Whether you like it caffeinated or decaf, loaded with cream and sugar, or simply black, the inaugural Philly Coffee Festival has something for you. This two-day festival will feature live music and the city’s top roasters, like La Colombe, High Point Cafe, Lucky Bean and so many more, as they share some of the best coffee, teas and eats in the country.
Those interested in learning more about the art of coffee roasting can speak to master roasters at an assortment of booths and vendors offered during the festival. The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the 23rd Street Armory. Tickets are going quickly but are still available for Saturday starting at $35 and Sunday starting at $24.
Don’t Tell Comedy is bringing their secret show to an iconic location — The Philadelphia Zoo. Normally, the venue stays under wraps until showtime but CBS Philadelphia’s digital team is just too good.
Get ready for a night of surprises, as even the comedians remain a secret until they hit the stage. The lineup features 4 to 7 secret comics, from emerging talent to fan favorites, delivering a unique live experience without the dreaded two-drink minimum.
Tickets start at $36.99. Refunds are available up to 24 hours before showtime, or transfer your ticket to a future event.
